Grading and Assessments: Monitor your grades frequently with our Home Base (Powerschool) computerized grading program that allows you to see current grades in all subjects. This is a very important tool to ensure your success! Parents must sign up with DDMMS if you haven’t already done so. Students receive their own log-in information which is different than their parents’ log-in information. For more information, please check the Powerschool link on my "Tech Programs Help" page under the "Other" Tab of this website.
Students will receive regular assessments on the required curriculum from the North Carolina Standards. These will occur approximately on a weekly basis. Those scores will be averaged together and will count as 70% of the quarterly grade. The remaining 30% of the grade will based on the score that they receive on a cumulative test at the end of the quarter to determine how much of the quarter's material they learned and retained. Students who are not happy with their assessment grades can take a retest (a different test on the same information.) The higher of the two tests will be recorded in the grade book. These grades will be updated regularly in Power School. Daily objectives, activities and homework are posted on the Qtr (Quarter) page of this website.
Classwork and some homework will be given to reinforce material we are learning. Feedback will be provided on some collected homework and/or classwork, but no grade will be entered into the grade book for those assignments since students are still learning the material when that work is assigned. Students must be sure to put their full name (first and last) on all of their work. No name=No credit/No feedback. I'm good at a lot of things, but mind-reading isn't one of them!
Late work and Absences: Late work from the 1st half of each quarter will be accepted until 1 week before interim progress reports go out. Late work from the 2nd half of each quarter will be accepted until 1 week before grades close for the quarter. Students who were absent should check my website and look in their Google Classroom for materials and assignments they missed while they were out. They should contact me when they return to be sure they understand assignments that were given during their absence, curriculum material that was covered, and deadlines for making up missed work. Please note that discussions about missed work can not happen during regular instruction time so students should email me when they return so we can set up a good time to talk about it. Deadlines will be given in accordance with WCPSS absence policy. It is the student's responsibility to get and turn in all work they missed when they were out. I do not chase down students to make up missed work!
